A Swedish company myFC has developed a charger of a different kind for mobile phones and other small electrical appliances. The special thing about the myFC PowerTrekk is that the power comes from a fuel cell and therefore it is completely independent of power sockets or any other power sources. In order to operate the PowerTrekk Fuel Cell Charger you only need two teaspoons of water and the exchangeable fuel cell i.e. “Pucks” (Puck is filled with sodium silicide=>NaSi [a non-flammable powder], which when put in contact with water , chemically reacts to make a little hydrogen H2 fuel cell). Once the PowerTrekk (Green-Black plastic box) device is activated, there will be a chemical, non-toxic reaction which produces electricity as a final product. This generated electricity is stored in a battery and that in turn can charge any smartphones, tablets, iPods and cameras via a connected USB cable and a relevant supplied adapter. This system is a bit expensive, Including three disposable fuel cells, this PowerTrekk Fuel Cell Charger can be ordered for currently 209 Euros on the manufacturer’s website.
The necessary recharging pads are also quite expensive and cost around 6 Euros per piece, especially when you consider that each PowerTrekk puck, at an output voltage of 5 volts generates only about 1,500 mAh power (which is not a lot of power), so just enough to fully charge the battery of an iPhone with a little bit more to spare. This means that Powertrekk alternative power generator is suitable as an emergency pack at most, if it is otherwise impossible to get the electricity due to outside conditions.
