Australian Helicopter Pilot and engineer Chris Malloy has claimed that he had the dream of several generations of readers of fiction books and science fiction movie viewers. He’s already created quite a working prototype flying motorcycle – Hoverbike.
The future starts today! Of course, this phrase is relevant every day, every hour. And over the past few decades, a huge number of technical innovations that are in the middle of the century was possible only in science fiction: PDAs, mobile phones, a hologram. Here shortly, you may be one more device, long known to us from the fiction – a flying motorcycle. In any case, an engineer from Australia, Chris Malloy said that he created the world’s first working prototype of this unusual vehicle.
To achieve this, he took two four-engine power of 80 kW each, and joined them screws for propulsion. This, according to technical calculations, should allow Hoverbike rise to a height of up to three miles and travel at speeds up to 278 kilometers per hour. However, such a height and a speed Hoverbike do not really need. The average flight height of this bike, as expected, Chris Malloy, will be from one to five meters.
While that Malloy had only the first test of his flying motorcycle, during which the bike was secured to the ground by four ropes. But in the near future he plans to undertake and complete, full flights Hoverbike, equipping it for the safety of a parachute. If all these tests are successful, Chris Malloy plans to sell the flying motorcycles Hoverbike to 40 thousand U.S. dollars apiece. Capacity of the same market he estimates a thousand motorcycles a year.
